Brief Historical Overview:
The Asociación Gente Joven Guatemala in its very beginning emerged as an initiative of international cooperation, university students, and municipal authorities.
Never the less after three years of work they tried making the youth’s space into a political zone for which the Joint Directive decided to culminate the process and gave them space for a new organization removed from the activities that could taint what is done on behalf of the young men and women in Quetzaltenango.
It is in this manner that Asociación Gente Joven Guatemala has reached 9 years of work in Quetzaltenango and the Southwest of Guatemala.
The association Gente Joven Guatemala is a nonprofit organization, apolitical and secular that has for an objective to continue the integral development of the Guatemalan youth; without social, racial or political discrimination.
We rely on an increased curriculum of inter-institutional coordination at a local, national, and international level.
The visibility of the youth sector since the signing of the Peace Accord has been one of the principle objectives, in this manner creating the capability for future generations to replace the current direction and decision making of Asociación Gente Joven Guatemala.

- 12 years of service on behalf of the youth in the Southwestern Guatemala region.
- 65 Projects executed during the time since the organization has existed.
- 372 activities accomplished in the region.
- 130 ally work organizations
- 22,516 benefited youth with the activities, programs, and projects fulfilled.
- 41 foreign volunteers have helped labor for Gente Joven Guatemala.
- 785 Guatemalan volunteers have helped work for Gente Joven Guatemala.
- More than 1,800 hours of voluntary work by young men and women.
